05/09/2010
Index, the Middle East’s leading design exhibition has invited Heidi Demuynck to take part as a judge at this years 2nd annual Contemporary Majlis competition for leading designers across the UAE.
With 20 years experience in design, Summertown's Commercial Director, Heidi, will join a team of industry experts to judge the distinctive competition that welcomes talent from primary design firms across the UAE. What sets the Contemporary Majilis competition apart is challenging these pioneering, creative participants to combine the time-honoured tradition that comes with this part of the house, with the consistently evolving contemporary and cutting edge design techniques of today, using primarily furniture and furnishings provided by exhibitors.
Index has appointed 4 leading UAE designers to create their vision of what the new majilis means to them, appointed from the most revered names in design across the UAE including Workshop Portfolio, Dubai Silicone Oasis, Green Curve, and Godwin Austen Johnson.
Demuynck has highlighted that interior decorating within the home, as with any building interior, can benefit from the broad-spectrum movement into environmentally friendly solutions across the industry; “Throughout the commercial sector, Summertown Interiors has sought to share not only the practical benefits of going green but additionally the innovative approach that comes with such a choice. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification has brought with it an unprecedented philosophy towards fit-outs, offering vibrant, creative ideas for the use of fabrics, materials and furnishings. With trends moving in this direction, there is a marked stimulus for properties to embrace a fresh and modern outlook toward interiors that is so accessible. I hope to see these designers adopting this kind of advanced, avant-garde design throughout the competition.”
Index will take place between the 8th-11th November at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
