Summertown host Project Management workshop
17/10/2011
Summertown welcomed leading project management firms this week to join a round table discussion about the challenges currently facing companies looking to adopt greener practices, and the roles and responsibilities of companies involved.
Project Management companies are leading the way in establishing greener initiatives on behalf of their clients and are key to ensuring that the environmental goals are clearly set from the start. However they do look to their fit out partners to drive through the implementation of these goals.
“The idea of going green is one that’s readily accepted by clients, however the practicalities of doing so present certain challenges. In the UAE we’re not fully up to speed on offering the required facilities to make going green easier. For example, recycling plants – none exist in Dubai at present. The nearest facility that will take waste from Dubai is located on the Saudi border. There is a construction waste management plant in Sharjah, however they are yet to obtain a license to manage Dubai waste. It should be in place in the near future though, so we are getting there. The increased cost of going green is predicted to be between 3% and 20%, although the return on investment can be in as little as 12 months.
It’s the commercial benefits that are really driving the positive uptrend as they are now better understood. It was great to see our own thoughts reciprocated by our industry partners, and to see that we’re on the same page when it comes to driving sustainable solutions” says Marcos Bish, Summertown’s Managing Director.
